Precision Deep Brain Neuromodulation

Developing technical infrastructure to run temporal interference stimulation (TIS) simultaneously with 7T MRI, enabling real-time observation of deep brain circuit responses to non-invasive stimulation.

A critical bottleneck in non-invasive deep brain stimulation is our inability to observe, in real time and with sufficient resolution, what stimulation is actually doing to deep brain circuits in living humans. Ultra-high field 7T MRI addresses this directly by offering dramatically improved spatial resolution, enhanced sensitivity to subcortical BOLD signal, and superior capacity to resolve fine nuclei-level structure.

This project develops the technical infrastructure to run TIS and 7T MRI simultaneously.
